Family First Medical Centre and Family First Skin Cancer Clinic has been operating since 2012. We have 7 General Practitioners INCLUDING 1 who has additional qualifications in Skin Cancer Medicine.
Additionally, our 2 Registered Nurses and a team of 6 admin staff and Practice Manager are all dedicated at putting the needs of our patients first. Our purpose-built facilities including large fully equipped theatre enable our Doctors and Nurses to provide the most advanced care in the most comfortable of surroundings. Our Medical Centre is conveniently located across the road from the Hervey Bay Hospital, and we have more than 65 car spaces available for ease of parking.

| DR WAYNE NORVAL MBChB B.Sc DipACSCM FRACGP
Dr Wayne Norval has been practicing medicine for more than 22 years. Wayne is a Vocationally Registered GP and has his Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. Dr Norval is the Practice Principle of Family First Medical Centre and is also the Head Skin Cancer Doctor with 12 years of Skin Cancer Medicine experience and is currently working towards completing his fellowship in Skin Cancer Medicine. Dr Wayne Norval holds his Diploma in Skin Cancer Surgery and he is one of only a few Doctors in Hervey Bay that are fully accredited by the Skin Cancer College of Australia. Dr Norval also has specialised experience in Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Psychiatry. Currently due to Dr Norval only working as a Skin Cancer Doctor his GP Books are closed, however will remain to see DVA patients. As of 1st May 2021, Dr Wayne Norval will move to Private Billing for Skin Check appointments for all New and Existing patients. Dr Wayne Norval holds his Diploma in Skin Cancer Surgery and he is one of only 2 Doctors in Hervey Bay that are fully accredited by the Skin Cancer College of Australia and the only Qualified Skin Dr still taking New Patients. Private Appointments will incur an out of pocket expense of $100.00 which will include, Skin Check, Biopsies, Recall Excision appointments and Nursing appointments (such as removal of stitches or wound care). New and Existing Patients that hold a DVA Gold Card or DVA White Card (eligible for skin) will continue to be bulk billed for all appointments. Patients that book Private Billing appointments and do not show for the appointment or who give less than 4 hours notice will be sent an invoice and if this is not paid no further appointments will be offered. |DR SARITA GURUNG MBBS
Dr Sarita Gurung is from Nepal. She completed her MBBS from Russia. Back home, she obtained her Masters Degree in Obstetrics and Gynaecology . In Australia Dr Gurung has completed her Masters in Public Health. Dr Gurungs special interests are womens health and preventative health. In her spare time, Dr Sarita loves to listen music and watching movies.
|DR NATHAN DICKENSON MBBS FRACGP
Nathan graduated from the University of Queensland in 2013. He practiced at The Prince Charles hospital for 2 years, and then in General Practice for 3 years at Childers Family Medicine. He completed his RACGP fellowship in 2018. He is passionate about all areas of general practice, but enjoys the areas of cardiology, respiratory and paediatrics. Dr Dickenson also has a special interest in skin medicine. From the 1st of September 2021, Dr Nathan Dickenson will transition to private billing for all patients, excluding DVA Gold card and patients under 18. This includes existing Skin and GP Patients. Recall appointments, biopsies, excisions, and nursing appointments (such as vaccination, wound care or health assessments) will remain bulk billed. Any bulk billed Skin Check appointments that were booked prior to this announcement will remain bulk billed. The out of pocket expense will be $33.00 for all private consults after Medicare rebate has been refunded to patient. There will be a list of expected fees at reception and on our website showing the cost before rebate for different types of consults. We are proud to announce that Dr Dickenson will be able to begin home visits from 1st of September. Home visits will be charged at an upfront fee of $216.30 for the first person seen in the house, with any other patients seen in the home that day bulk billed. There is a Medicare rebate available for home visits, but this will vary depending on the complexity of the consult, and the number of people seen in the house. |Dr Tapash Saha MBBS MRCP UK
Dr Tapash Saha is an experienced GP from Bangladesh. Dr Saha had worked extensively in general medicine, neurology and cardiology for 4 years gaining experience in Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Bangladesh. He also has obtained his Membership of the Royal Colleges of the United Kingdom (MRCP UK) in the year2014. He is interested in chronic disease management, family Medicare, preventive counselling, men’s Health, general Medicine and cardiology. He is happily married & blessed with two kids. During spare time he enjoys movies, melodious music and travelling.
|DR Daniel Gonzalez MBBS
Dr Gonzalez has recently relocated to Hervey Bay from Melbourne to start practicing with The Family First Team for a long term placement. Originally from Mexico, Dr Gonzalez is an experienced GP who started his medical career in the Emergency Department at one of Mexico’s largest public hospitals and has since worked extensively in General Medicine.Dr Daniel Gonzalez is passionate about all areas of General Practice with special interests in chronic disease management, preventative medicine, paediatrics and mental health.In his spare time, Daniel enjoys traveling, listening to live music, and spending time outdoors. He is very excited to be part of Family First Medical Centre for at least the next 4 years and is proud to offer the Hervey Bay community care.
|Dr Bhavin Karkar MD
Dr Bhavin Karkar has 12 months Accident and Emergency Medicine Experience and comes to us with over 10 years experience as a General Practitioner and Consulting Physician. With special interests in treating Chronic Conditions, Cardiology, Lung Diseases and Endocrine Disorders we welcome Dr Karkars expertise as a permanent member of our Medical Team. Outside of work Dr Bhavin Karkar loves traveling, dogs, cricket and enjoys unwinding with visits to the beach and meditation. Dr Karkar is thrilled to be a resident of Hervey Bay and he is very excited to join the Fraser Coast Community with the goal of being able to commit to looking after his patient base for many years to come.

Dr Aung Koko has recently relocated to Hervey Bay from Rockhampton to start with the Family First Team. Dr Aung worked as an Emergency Medicine Registrar in Jamaica for 4 years prior to coming to Australia. Dr Aung Koko has worked as ED Registrar/ Principle House Officer for 3 years in Rockhampton Base Hospital. Principle House Officer for 3 years in Rockhampton Base Hospital. Outside of work, Dr Koko enjoys watching soccer, listening to music, taking photos while travelling and spending time with family and friends.
